Actually one needs experts in statistical modelling to fully evaluate the implications, because the authors use numerous models to make various arguments. I did not wish the article to get too long and complex by going into these issues and I plan to discuss the implications once I get more into the modelling.
There is, however, one immediate consequence for the main result: their primary model concerns Facebook expansion only in the most elite an competitive U.S. colleges (less than 10% of all post-secondary institutions in the US) -- so it say nothing about effects in the vast majority of U.S. colleges.
